I also feel incredibly let down. I only just found out about the game, paid $24 and only now discovered that I have the family-friendly version. Is there anyway to change this for people who WANT TO support the game?

I have the same issue. I only (very recently) discovered the game, paid the $24, don't have the adult version, and the game only went up to a certain level and no further. Is there any way to get the full DLC (if I have paid for it)?
